The MVS Model

The MVS – Minimum Valuable Service – model has two different moods. A mood is a frame of mind, one that the project team needs to adopt in order to use the tools and approaches presented in each stage of the MVS.

The two moods are: Humanize and Crystallize.

Humanize steers the focus of the project team away from the technology and toward humanistic variables by immersing the team within the “learn, use and remember” aspects of the user journey. In the Humanize mood, the team will project themselves into the shoes of others, and co-design perspectives along with potential users. This mood is about empathy-building and co-designing, and its two steps are Humanize::Projection and Humanize::Perspectives.

Crystallize, on the other hand, is when the refinement variables and business constraints come into play. Remember, the project team needs to be on the correct path to creating possible solutions, things that are of value but can also be crystallized into real-world solutions. The mood Crystalize allows the team to play around with experience prototypes aimed at fostering discussions of viability. Its two steps are Crystallize::Playground and Crystallize::Polish Off.
